US Mortgage Rates Fall
According to mortgage giant Freddie Mac, mortgage rates fell this week, with the average for a 30 year fixed-rate coming in at 4.77 percent, compared to 4.86 percent last week and 5.09 percent in the same week in 2010.
The average for a 15 year fixed loan, Freddie reported, was 4.13 percent for the week ending January 6th, down from 4.2 percent the week before and 4.5 percent for the first week of 2010. Five year Treasury-indexed adjustable-rate mortgages (ARMs), meanwhile, averaged 3.75 percent for the week, compared to 3.77 percent last week and 4.44 percent a year ago. Finally, the average rate for a one year Treasury-indexed ARM for the week was 3.24 percent, down from 3.26 percent last week and 4.31 percent a year ago.
